May Progress Report


It's time for the monthly recap!

What happened in May?  Well I'm happy to say despite spending time finishing Chapter 7 and celebrating reaching 10,000 downloads, I also managed to get Chapter 8 to be fully functional.  Now some mechanics aren't fully finished, and the enemies still need tweaking, but as there are a lot of elements currently in a WIP state, including the battle system those things were never going to be finished.  So less talking more showing!

Now the first thing you'll probably notice is that the text boxes look different.  There's all sorts of buttons in there?  Good eye!  Yes one of the new things I'm working on is Quality of Life features.  This includes several new features, not all of which are working properly yet.  But you'll be happy to hear that the Fast option will let you skip through any scenes you've already seen. Back to Chapter 8 though, Red finally reaches the Yellow Brick Road, and the end of her long night is in sight.

Unnnnfortunately there's some sturdy vines blocking the route forward. So the straight and easy path simply wasn't meant to be. These vines will be a core gimmick of this chapter, but you'll also find them throughout the beginning of the game as well. They'll block off certain "late game" content until you clear Chapter 8.

Heading into the Poppy Field Red is surprised to find the Witch outside of her cabin.  Turns out Witch is lookin for a rare item but a giant Treant guards this section of the forest. But with Red here, she proposes a team up. And of course, with that Witch joins your party for the Dungeon of this chapter.


The Poppy Field is full of living plant life, in particular there's a brand new enemy called the Flower Head.  The battle UI is currently completely in a WIP state so don't focus too much on that yet!  I'm just playing around with things!  But yeah these living Flowers aren't just creepy, they've got tons of tricks up their sleeves.  Be on your guard!

This section of the forest is also full of its own tricks.  More vines block your path and sometimes you find yourself walking in circles. But keep at it and you'll find yourself at the end of the Winding Woods.

Face to face with the Treant you'll have  two possible outcomes here.

You could defeat the boss and move on just like any other chapter.

OR, you could lose.  And the plot will still progress.  A unique boss this time around.

I'll also confirm for you here that the Hide feature is fully working already.  So you can examine all the images in full from now on.

This is a fully optional scene but something tells me players will be seeking it out.  I'll leave what happens to your imagination.

Either way, Witch will find her item and invite you back to her cabin to finish the chapter.

Of course there is one other optional sequence here...But again.  I won't expose that.

All in all good progress!  June should be fully focused on Chapter 9 as well as further work on more systems.  I'd expect some developments on the games UI next time.  Menus have been on my mind and I've got some plans coming.
